So with the Movies and Makers show just past(thanks to all those who came out!), I’m looking to the future and what I see on the horizon is my next show, the Barns Art Market. The dates I will be there are:

The market runs from 9am until 3pm each of those days. The Wychwood Art Barns are located just west of St.Clair W and Bathurst St in Toronto, ON.

The next show I’ll be attending is the Movies and Makers show on Saturday May 5 at the Fox Theatre in Toronto. I’ll have both my jewellery and watches at this show which is in an amazing little movie theatre way down at the far end of Queen St E in the Beach. The show is running from 11am until 5:30pm that day.

Lisa, the organizer of the show, has also recently upped a blog post about my work which you can find on the show’s website here. There are also links to all of the other vendors that will be at the show. Hope to see you there!

I’m happy to announce that I’m able to give away a total of 5 pairs of tickets to this years show, a pair of tickets for each winner. The names were drawn at random by my wife from a hat my son wears…its all very official. Here are the winners:

El Lum

Rachel Headley

Sari Colt

Cheryl Andrews-Morreale

Stef Raab

I’ll be contacting each of you by end of the day tomorrow with the details on how to get your tickets. Congratulations!

Well, there just a little over a week to go until the Spring One of a Kind Show here in Toronto and methinks there are many people such as myself who are doing some last minute scrambling. It seems no matter how much planning and prep work you do, there are always things being finished right up until the last minute.

I started doing my planning, prep, ordering, designing and all those things that go into making my watches way back at the beginning of January, but alas, I’m still clambering all the way to the end. It always feels like heartbreak whenever there’s a piece left unfinished, knowing that if I hadn’t watched that TV show I could have gotten it done. No use beating myself up about it because I’m going to have more watches than I’ve ever had a show before, all for your viewing pleasure. Here are a couple of quick snaps of some new work. If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you may have seen a couple of my new designs already.

First one is a quartz watch with one of my new niobium dials, I’ll have other watches with niobium dials(ie. different vibrant colours and designs) at the show. Second watch is one of my new skeletonized watches with an oxidized sterling silver dial. To see all my latest designs, please come out to the show, my booth number is D-45. I’ll also have them posted to my website soon.

I’m still running my ticket giveaway for the show, so check out my other blog post to see all the entry details. Coming up very shortly I’ll be posting a tweet, that if you retweet it, you’ll get entered into my contest, this will be the last way to enter my giveaway other than the ways listed in my other post. The draw for the tickets will be happen this Saturday, so time’s running out to enter.

Well, I’m sure with all the work that I have remaining; this will probably be my last blog post before the show. I’ll be tweeting and blogging from the show floor as well, so stay tuned for those and I hope to see you there. Please stop by and say hello!

I haven’t been posting as much as I normally would about my preparations for the upcoming Spring One of a Kind show, so to break the drought I thought I’d post a couple quick snapshots of one of the new watches I’ve finished for the show.

In one of my previous blogs about the show, I posted a 3D render of one of the dials that I am making. Here is the finished product which I’ll have at the show:

This watch is stainless steel with a PVD coating and a sterling silver dial which has cutouts so you can see through to the skeletonized movement behind it.

I will have many other new watch designs at the show including some with niobium dials which I’m really happy with. It’s nice to finally have some vibrant colour on my dials and to also have it happen in such a unique way. I’ll post some picture or two about these in my next blog post before the show.

I’ll also have photos of all the watches I will have at the show, posted before the show on my website and probably also on Etsy.

I’m also still running my ticket giveaway, so if you want to win free tickets to come to the show, please visit this page to enter. Winning a pair of tickets could potentially save you $28 if you would have purchased a pair of tickets at the door to the show.

Time to get back to work, please come by my booth at the show and say hello, its booth # D45. See you there!

Ever wanted to own one of my watches and support a charity? Well now you can!

I’ve donated one of my watches to the Queen West Artcrawl for their Artgives event which supports the arts in Toronto. They are hosting an evening at Gallery 345 where there will be an art auction conducted by David Silcox of Sotheby’s Canada and live performaces by Juno Award winner Jane Bunnett.

This event is happening March 19, 2012 from 6-9pm. Please visit the QWAC Artgives website for all the details and to purchase tickets. Please help to support the arts in our community!

If you would like more information about Queen West Artcrawl as a charity, please visit this website.

The timepiece I’ve donated is one of my Large Stainless Steel Watches with Daedalian Dial # 1 (pictured below). If you’d like more information about this particular watch, please follow this link to my website. My watch is part of the fundraiser’s silent auction. Every year in September the Queen West Artcrawl has a fantastic Outdoor Show in Trinity Bellwoods in Toronto which I’ve been lucky enough to participate in a few times. This year is the 10th anniversary of the show. Please check their website regularly as the show approaches to see what special events they have planned for this anniversary year!

The Spring One of a Kind show is just around the corner, so I thought I’d write a little post about it and the types of watches I’m preparing for the show.

The show is at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada starting on March 28, 2012 and running through April 1, 2012. Please check the OOAK website for all the details regarding directions and show times. If you wanted to get discounted tickets, you can order them online and use the code in the image below to save some money.

So as for the work I’m going to be showing, I’m making many new watch designs just for the show. I had many requests at the Christmas One of a Kind and I’m trying to fulfill as many of them as possible. Here’s a summary of what new items I’ll be showing:

– There were many requests for skeletonized watches and so I’m trying to have three different watches with 3 different skeletonized movements with 3 different dials. The designs I have come up with are quite different from each other, so I hope there’s something for everyone while still staying within design aesthetic that I enjoy. Here’s a a 3D computer image teaser of one of the dials:

Skeletonteaser

– I’ll also have many more PVD(black coated) watch cases in different sizes than at the Xmas OOAK show.

– I’m making more watches with my friend and collaborator Hugh. The other two watches I made with him, grabbed the attention of quite a few people, so look for something new there as well.

– Lastly, it wasn’t a requested item but something I was researching before the Xmas OOAK show, a new metal for my dials called niobium. Niobium is a metallic element, number 41 on the periodic table and has one property which I find to be wonderful. Run electricity through it and it turns all sorts of crazy colours. Like this:

Niobium_colours

Unfortunately, niobium is not the easiest metal to work with, but I’ve been working with a gentleman who has some very specialized machinery(aka an insane laser beam that cuts through metal machine) to help me create my designs in this wonderful medium. I don’t have an example to show you yet, but should have something on the blog before the show.

I also don’t know why I enjoy packaging materials so much, but I do, and it drove me to get new bags made for my watches. So if you purchase one of my pieces, you’ll get to carry it away in one of these bad boys:

Shoppingbag

So there has been lots of things happening in my workshop to prepare for the coming show and I’m very excited about all the possibilites that these new processes are opening. I’ll be posting more to the blog as the show approaches, so stay tuned!

Oh, and of course I would be remiss without mentioning my little guy who may make some things not happen, so if there are a couple watches that don’t make it to the show, you can blame it on this guy:
